  • After entering the Resort then follow the signs to the ‘walker parking area’ OR the ‘runner parking area’, and then after parking go to packet pick up located in the ‘walker parking area’.
  • Packet pick up is also near the start/finish area located in parking area (walker parking) of the Grand Hall Pavilion.
  • JUST FOLLOW THE WELL PLACED SIGNS!

ARRIVAL TIME:

  • We recommend that all registrants arrive at the Resort a minimum of 1 to1½ hours before the start of the race at 5:45PM. This is due to the delays that will occur when entering the Resort, possible delays at the gate, parking, race bib & tee pick up, and for a timely start of the races. Also be aware of the extensive road construction taking place on Lanier Islands Parkway, and make plans to possibly avoid Lanier Islands Parkway from I-985 to Peachtree Industrial Blvd.

CARPOOL, CARPOOL, CARPOOL:

  • There may be as many as 1,500 vehicles entering the Resort just for this race. So consider carpooling to reduce a potential back up at the gate.
  • Possible meeting places to carpool:

Lanier Islands Community Church: Located about ½ mile from the entrance to the Resort.

Publix Shopping Center: Located at I-985 and Lanier Islands Parkway, about 4 miles away from the entrance to the Resort.

DIRECTIONS:

  • The race will be held at Lake Lanier Islands Resort, located at 7000 Lanier Islands Parkway, Buford, GA 30518.
  • I-85N to Exit 113 I-985N, get off at Exit 8 Lanier Islands Pkwy (formerly Friendship Road) and TURN LEFT, and Lake Lanier Islands Resort is 4.5 miles straight ahead. Once in the Resort, please follow the signs and the volunteer’s instructions.

PARKING AREAS:

  • Enter the resort, go over the bridge, go left around the ‘Clock Tower’ roundabout, and the parking areas will be down .3 miles on the left and right sides. ‘Runners’ will turn right at Camillia Road into the upper parking area, and ‘Walkers’ turn left at Camillia Road and a quick right into the lower parking area/Grand Hall Pavilion parking area.
  • Do not turn right at the ‘Clock Tower’ roundabout because you will end up at the Legacy Lodge.
  • For the safety of the finishing participants, the vehicles parked in the ‘Walker’ parking area will not be able to exit until 7:30PM at the earliest for the safety of the participants finishing the race.

OPENING CEREMONY:

  • Begins at 5:35PM: Bob Mahan’s opening prayer, and Pat Felt’s perfect rendition of the National Anthem.
  • Again, please arrive at the Resort early to allow for gate delays, parking, and race bib / tee pick up delays.

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER & STROLLER LIMITATIONS:

  • All participants must register for the run, unless it is a child young enough to be pushed & remain in a stroller. All kids who are walking or running must register!
  • All strollers must start in the 6th race coral, and then have only use a walking pace while on the race course. Any participant found to be running the course while pushing a stroller will be disqualified, and asked to stop participating in the race. This is for the safety of other participants, and for the safety of the child in the stroller. The roads are too narrow, and it is simply too dark to weave around and run alongside other runners during the race.

SUPPORTERS & FAMILY OF PARTICIPANTS:

  • Please stay within the marked areas around the start & finish area during the race.
  • Only registered runners will be allowed on the race course.
  • Enjoy your evening and THANK YOU all for your cooperation!

FURTHER EVENT INFORMATION:

  1. Race Course
  2. Parking & Exiting
  3. Corral 1 - Corral 6
  4. Stroller Limitations
  5. Restroom Facilities
  6. Children should run with a registered parent or caregiver.
  7. Registrations will be a maximum 2,300 participants.

1. Race Course:

    • The course now uses the roadways in the rear of the Islands, which dramatically reduce the number of vehicles on the race course to few if any.
    • Same race course as the Fallen Heroes of Georgia 5K.
    • 5K Course Certification # - GA11903WC
    • CLICK HERE to view the race course.

2. Parking & Exiting:

    • Race parking and exiting will not be impeded by the race course.
    • So the delays in exiting that affected many following the 2010 and 2011 race will not occur going forward.
    • Runners will use the upper parking lot, and walkers will use the lower parking lot.
    • For the safety of the finishing participants, the vehicles parked in the ‘Walker’ parking area will not be able to exit until 7:30PM at the earliest for the safety of the participants finishing the race.

3. Corral 1 - Corral 6:

    • 1 minute delay between the starting of each Corral.
    • This will allow for a more orderly and controllable start and first mile or 2 of the race course.

4. Stroller Limitations:

    • Sorry but runners will not be allowed to push a stroller while participating in the race, however walkers will still be able to push a stroller safely in the 6th race corral on the right hand side of the roadway.
    • The race course is just too crowded, and has several areas of low lighting for us to allow participants to run while pushing a stroller.
    • This is best for the safety of the little ones, and for the safety of other course participants.

5. Restroom Facilities:

    • Several port-o-johns will be located in the vendor/packet pickup location near the restrooms of the Grand Hall Pavilion.

6. Children should run with a registered parent or caregiver:

    • Due to much of the race course having limited or low lighting.
    • This certainly pertains to all kids under 12, and ages 13 and above should also consider having a registered adult running with them too. This is in the best interest of your children.

7. Registrations will be a maximum 2,300 participants:

    • This limitation is due to limited parking, and to ensure the course is not too crowded.
